What if I told you that there is more to just reading nursing booksrelated to academics only. Recently, I discovered two interestingbooks, though I am not sure whether some of you might have comeacross them already. The first book is The Best of Nursing Humorby Colleen Kenefick and Amy Young. The book comprises of a collectionof essays and stories authored by different nurses from around theworld on various topics (the two listed authors are just editors).Currently, there are only two volumes of the book. The book isavailable on Amazon.com(https://www.amazon.com/Best-Nursing-Humor-Collection-Literature/dp/1560530626)from as low as $15.4 (Amazon (2016a). The other book is BedlamAmong the Bedpans: Humor in Nursing by Amy Young. This book isjust like the first one (hope you already guessed the similaritygiven that the author is the co-author of the first book) and offersa collection of stories from nurses all over the world. The book iseasily available on Amazon.com(https://www.amazon.com/Bedlam-Among-Bedpans-Humor-Nursing/dp/0323045243)starting from $13 (Amazon 2016b).

There is a reason why I am suggesting these books. For one, they saylaughter is “medicine” and can help you heal in different ways.Secondly, I am giving you guys a way you can learn how to socializeand break the ice during informal or even formal interactions withfellow nurses and medics. Again, the jokes can help you sharerelaxing moments with colleagues. Remember that most knowledge inthis life, especially tacit knowledge, is acquired in socialenvironments. So if you want to expand your social skills and learn, the two books are a good place to start.

The other resource I have identified is a blog that targets nursingstudents. This blog (http://www.straightanursingstudent.com/),written by Maureen Osuna, who is an experienced ICU RN, covers manytopics among them doing dosage calculations. Basically the blog seeksto mentor nursing students and assist them around tricky topics intheir learning.

The books can help you learn, relax, and laugh while the blog helpsyou interact directly with a practicing nurse and other students. Ihope they will all be helpful to you.
