Network Engineer

Computers are networked to facilitate the exchange of data and toenable efficient communication. A network engineer supervises acompany’s computer network to ensure that all system functions asper the requirements (Infosec Institute, 2016). In this regard, anetwork engineer controls all computers using a central server.Consequently, each computer would have easy access to files andprograms. It is also important to connect all machines to telephone,printers, and fax equipment. In addition, regular software andhardware upgrades must be made as part of communication devicemanagement (Infosec Institute, 2016).

Pablo Nunez &amp Gonzalez (2014),targeted to realize themotivating conditions that propagated the students to make thedecision to undertake a technical degree and most specifically,engineering. The three scholars stated that the motivational factorspartly influence a learner`s favorite career options and partly bythe degree of satisfaction when one achieves the goals of being aprofessional in their field of choice. The analysis found outthat individual’s intrinsic inspirations to pursue a degree ofchoice is also a major factor influencing the student’sperformance.

Matusovich, Streveler &amp Miller(2010), wrote an article, which aimed at inquiring the reasons thatinfluence the students’ decision to pursue a career in engineering.The authors analyzed the way the engineering-related perceptions ofthe learners affected their choice and interest to enroll in a degreein this field. This work used the Eccles’ theory onexpectancy-value and longitudinal assessment to find out the reasonfor student’s decisions to register and endure in engineeringcourses. In particular, conclusions seemed to indicate that most ofthe learners choose to undertake a degree in engineering, as itcollides with the personality.

I chose to undertake a degree in network engineering for manyreasons. First, it was due to my fascination with computers’software and hardware. It has been my passion to be a professional intechnology. Through this field, I can learn the way individuals indifferent regions can trade real-time data. Furthermore, networkingis a broad field applied in many sectors. Hence, I will enjoy theprivileges to assess various technological aspects in the career ofmy choice. Although there is a global recession in career options,network engineering has maintained a commendable development capacitythat guarantees never-ending employment opportunities (Prospects,2016). In spite of all these factors, my motivation stems from theidea of working as a freelance network practitioner. Once I amqualified as a professional, I can then sell my services at areasonable price. Being in a stable employment would give me theopportunity to receive a regular pay slip and hence I would enjoymany other benefits such as the health insurance. The developingeconomies have developed policies whose target is to improve theirtechnological infrastructure (Prospects, 2016). I, therefore, predictmany opportunities to explore the globe while establishing a solidimpact.

A career in network engineering would keep my spirits up as I wouldhave endless options and chances to increase my knowledge. I realizethat business systems differ in significant ways and that theyrequire undivided attention to learn and master. Also, the systemmethods of any particular institution are traditionally developed viaa detailed process (Prospects, 2016). On-site training is necessaryto achieve the job requirements of a particular organization. Theprocess of learning in network engineering is quite engaging, and itequips people with the necessary analytical competencies (Prospects,2016). It would be my pleasure to enhance my skills in engineeringand at the same time do my work.

It would require me to obtain either a Bachelor`s degree or a Mastersof Business of Administration (MBA) degree to be a competent networkengineer. The focus of my learning would be in the context ofcomputer engineering and information systems. Training gives one toanalyze the required networking devices. Problem-solving methods aretaught to counter computer network problems (Prospects, 2016). It isnecessary for the graduates to show competency in informationsecurity, programming essentials, administration of network, andoperating systems. A working experience ranging from five to tenyears as a systems administrator is required for a position as anetwork engineer (Prospects, 2016). Being attached and working asinterns at relevant field gives weight to an individual’s skills.

Today, many employers hire prospective engineers who have somespecific qualifications. Some software companies such as Cisco, RedHat, and Microsoft Corporation have issued some particularqualification requirements for the network engineers who wish to workwith them (Prospects, 2016). Obtaining an industry-standardcertificate propagates increased growth in the networking field.Software and hardware companies specify requirements to networkadministrators who qualify in designated tests. It is important tohave problem-solving and analytical skills if one wishes to pursue anetwork engineering career. Also, an aptitude for design andinnovativeness should be blended with the ability to operateadministration programs and system assessment software. Advancedknowledge in remote LAN servers and network designs is critical inthe networking (Infosec Institute, 2016). Those who wish to pursuenetworking must possess client service and leadership competencies ifthey are to head a group of system managers.

It is my plan to study at Colorado Technical University.Specifically, I will undertake a Bachelor of Science degree inInformation Technology and Project Management. I will then pursue anMBA focusing on information systems. The program takes two years andcovers areas related to telecommunications design, internetprotocols, and wireless networking. I also plan to acquire relevantqualifications such as Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert (MCSE)and Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate (MCSA). It is importantto apply for loans and several scholarship funds to cater for thehigh enrollment costs. I am confident that my excellent academicprogress will convince the decision-makers to support my education.Working on my strengths will ensure that I secure internships at therelevant institutions. When I complete my course, applying for a jobin network administration will be the next best course of actionwhich will add to my field experience. In my work period as a systemadministrator, I will continue to increase my knowledge as much aspossible. After five years of reputable service, I will begin toconsider the existing gaps in the field. I am sure that my skillswill make me adequately qualified. To increase the demand for myservices, I will have to build on my analytical and leadershipcompetencies.

It is true to say that the growth in technology has propagated thenetworking of computers and hence ensuring the exchange ofinformation. This increase has raised the demand for networkengineers in the technological market. It is important for allorganizations to acquire certified staff to supervise their computersystems. A network engineer develops and applies solutions toeliminate the inefficiencies encountered. My interest in technologyand computers has made me consider pursuing a career in networkengineering. I have established an elaborate plan to acquire therequired abilities and certificates that will push me to realize mydreams.
